Euro Beats 2. The
story continues, and not only concerning the name! Again there are five tunes
and with a bit of effort they all can find their sibling in the first collection.
Don't worry - it's no recyclation, just the atmosphere of the collection is pretty
much the same - and those who tried the first one (or at least read the
review) know that it's a plus.

DreamLoad and AAY64 updated! |
19:18 |
DreamLoad has gone to Version 2.2. Updates include higher reliability so updating is recommended (Yeah, we optimized a little too much as well ;)). No complaints about this version so far...
The huge online-help "All_About_Your_64" was also updated again and finally a plain ASCII-version is introduced.
Hope it's useful to some ppl out there. Get it from The Dreams Homepage!

Metal Warrior II & III NTSC-fixed |
16:10 |
There was some talk a long time ago that someone might be able to NTSC-fix these games, but so far I've heard no further development on that. I forgot the whole thing too but then I suddenly got an idea how to do it myself (deceptively simple; just dividing colorscreen-scrolling into two parts), so
Metal Warrior II NTSC-fixed
and
Metal Warrior III NTSC-fixed
have been released. In MW3 there's still the minor inconvenience of stars & character-bullets flickering at the top of screen but that's unavoidable I think.

Elysium?s CIA-IDE interface |
01:00 |
The CIA-IDE is yet another approach to connect an IDE hard drive to C64/128. It simply requires only 2 chips (or just one in case of C128), the documentation and software is for free (available in source code form under GNU GPL), comes with a ready to use GEOS 2.0 driver. Documentation, source codes and binaries made out of them are available here! "A word of explanation: This project was not meant to compete with IDE64 or any other similar project. I did it for fun and I want to share my work so other could benefit from it too." Maciej Witkowiak of Elysium - the author of the project

There is a very nice user-interface and the tunes are lengthy. You can download Euro Beats #2 from here or visit The New Dimension Web Site. It is yet another Civitas production. Got any feedback about the demo, email me.

Out of Orderia - 28.-30. December |
14:06 |
Like in the past years, Out of Order's C64-only-Party takes place in South-Germany on 28.-30.12.2001 - the right thing to celebrate the end of the year. All Commodore enthusiasts and everybody who's interested are invited to attend the sixth edition of this scene party and end the year with the breadbox. Again, the party will be held in the sacred halls of Hoppst?dten-Weiersbach (near Birkenfeld, between Kaiserslautern and Trier).
The most important features:
- Out of Orderia is a Commodore-only party (read: PCs and other systems are okay as long as they're not the only computer you bring)
- the party place has separate sleeping space, a kitchen, restrooms for ladies & gents and a shower. Plus, there's a meadow behind the house that we can use as a playground!
- Demo, graphics, music and gaming competitions, and more!
- Auctions (sell any hard- or software)
- and many other surprises
- begins on friday, Dec 28; ends on sunday, Dec 30 at noon
- entrance fee is 20 DM / 10 Euro
- location: parsonage of the catholic community of Hoppst?dten-Weiersbach
- shuttle service from the station to the party place
- parking lot in front of the house
Reservation isn't mandatory, but strongly recommended due to place restrictions! Don't forget to bring your own cables, PSUs and so on!
You don't know anything about Out or Order parties? Visit this site: http://www.murphys-world.de

Balloonacy V1.2 - 99% or 100% fixed! |
19:40 |
Balloonacy has now been fixed and thoroughly tested for any more bugs. I've spent hours testing the game, and I had to re-write routines. I have played the game myself and I would assume that it could be difficult to play, but quite addictive. I've added some lasers to Part 1 of the game, as it was too easy to play with the fixed movements of the enemies.
You can download the game from here or visit The New Dimension Web Site.

Cool computing: The Alternative Party |
21:35 |
In case people here aren't already aware, I feel that I should mention that we are organising a very exciting party called "The Alternative Party". Basically it's a party that is trying to return to the original oldskool basics: meeting people, competing and having fun without necessarily bumping into Quake and CS.
We support all alternative platforms. C64s, Ataris, SGIs, Amigas, Vectrexes, old PCs etc. etc. We are also combining that with a list of experimental artists playing live on stage during the 3-day event. F.ex. Tero (who plays synths and a C64 live).
It takes place in Helsinki, Finland. For more information contact
setok@fishpool.com, or visit our website: www.altparty.org

BOFH:Servers Under Siege for C64 |
23:31 |
I don't want to over-hype or anything but I just wanted to tell that now my next C64 project has taken definite shape: it will be a conversion from my PC overhead shooter game "BOFH:Servers Under Siege"
As you can see there's already the quite cool feature of not seeing behind walls.
Estimated development time is definitely less than half year, I thought it would be nice to do something smaller for a change. :-)

I have written V1.1 of Balloonacy, as there was a major bug in part 1, which was related to sprite collision detection. Therefore the played died in thin air. This bug is now fixed, so now you are able to play the game without this sort of problem. Apologie for the problems. You can download the game here or you can visit
The New Dimension website Apologies for the bugs left in the previous game :(

The Session v1.4 by More.Gore |
15:14 |
This I got in my e-mailbox today: Hi there, I attached a puzzle game for the C64: The Session V1.4. Release date is *now*. There are some old cracked versions of this game around, which only have 18 levels. What you find in the attachment is a new original version that comes with 35 levels and an editor. I am not particularly proud of the technical quality of this one, but maybe you like it anyway. Feel free to spread it if you want. Additionally, you will find yet another update of Space Battle Deluxe (V2.2)
in the second attachment. Some more minor bugs have been fixed, and the game
should be at 99.9% now. I don't have any plans to create more C64 games, but maybe there will be an extra level disk for The Session if I receive enough feedback. Cheers, Jan. I've glimpsed on the game and eventhough (as Jan says) it's technically mediocre, it has a style and atmosphere. Thanx for nice sending, Jan.

Exilent Pixels - graphic collection |
00:21 |
Whatta? Anubis have released a graphic collie by Exile (Holland). Note that SAD, Lord Hypnos and Factor6 left this Czech-Dutch group a few weeks ago (first two joined Padua later on). Exile's favourite graphic mode is multicolor and his shading techniques are quite simplistic, but still I'm sure you will love this collie which brings cute graphic in combination with SAD's (surprisingly) happy music & Lord Hypnos's decent code.

C64see v1.0 released (plugin for ACDsee) |
22:53 |
C64see is a plugin for the Windows based picture viewer and browser ACDSee (for version 3.0 and above). It enables your ACDSee to browser trough C64 pictures like you can browse trough your normal PC format pictures. C64see bases on the sources of the older VicShow. Kmeg/Albion/Shape did a nice job with those programs. On his website http://thegallery.c64scene.org you can also find tools for ripping c64 graphics and of the course the VicShow program aswell as the C64see plugin. Additionally, there is a betaversion of the HVGC (High Voltage Graphic Collection, a collection similar to the HVSC containing C64 graphics) available.

Just to remind you there's one week left to send in your votes for the Minigame competition (you know, the contest to find the best 8-bit game written in 512 bytes or 2K of code), to decide upon a winner. A lot of sterling work has gone into the entries from all sides, so it's well worth checking out - and clear instructions for running the emulators are included, in the download pack and on the http://demo.raww.net/minigame/ The deadline for voting forms is Friday 9th November...go on, take part. You'll like it, oh yes you will. (Rewritten from comp.sys.cbm, GoatCompo results comming asap, CreaMD)

Balloonacy - Finally released |
19:39 |
At long last, the full game is finally released. This is one of the best C64 games, which Richard Bayliss has ever created.
The game features 16 levels of madness (8 levels split into 2 parts), Plenty of C64 music, playability and also puzzles - sort of.
Fly your balloon to the switch and flick it, then run to the exit, before time runs out.
You can download the game at The New Dimension C64 web site - downloads section.
Planned before Christmas 2001, is a new demo, which will be started. Euro Beats #2 is going to be yet another Civitas production with another selection of C64 tunes for you to bop and rumble to. The user-interface will look a lot more better and the overall result should be good.

Well,
another nice month. This time 34 Alpha-News full of interesting news about The Scene activity. You all participated on another huge release list full of interesting
demos, games, tools, and other yummy things. What was the most interesting news
of the month? Probably the return of Cadaver (Lasse ??rni) to activity, and
controversial The Dark Court which provoked more reactions than anyone of us
expected.
