We?ve just released not one, not two but three 8bit products, the C64 one (obviously the most important to readers here) is an intro for C.G.M. UKScene Radio which is nothing special but was good fun to do. There?s also an Atari 8bit version of the same intro available and, since i?m in PR bunny mode, 4-Mat?s excellent Bad Scene Poetry was released at the same time for the unexpanded VIC20. As always, the swag can be grabbed at www.cosine.org.uk.

Retro Replay available again soon |
17:22 |
Since the announcement from July 15th, 2003, interest in the Retro Replay increased a lot. I received orders nearly every day of the past five weeks that convinced me to make a second production run. A big order from the Go64 magazine also ensured an unchanged price of 50,- EUR each. I?m expecting the first cartridges by mid-september. Till that day, the 10MBit networking card for the Commodore 64 called RR-Net will also start selling. For technical reasons, the Retro Replay party cannot take place in September this year. Since the building cannot be heated economically, there is no other date for the party this year, so it has to be moved it to early 2004.

Reminder: Mass order of NEW 5.25" disks |
13:43 |
The mass-ordering of NEW 5.25" disks at www.forum-64.de is still running! The order will be placed at the end of August. The disks are package in boxes of 10, this includes covers and labels. The disks were originally made for industrial and commercial use. They have strengthening rings for prolonged usage. Certainly no cheap material, so the price is justified. They're ordering it from an American company, which offers a bulk purchase discount. Meaning that the more disks are ordered, the cheaper it gets! Read more about it here (the announcement with the prices) Post here to order. For more information, contact the man organizing the whole thing: C64doc.

?rok Party 5 took place on 8th to 10th August 2003 in Ajka, Hungary and it was simply awesome! There were 23 attendants this year (last time it were 16). If it?s going this way next year we will have to find another place. There were the usual compos like gfx / msx / intro / wild (these were all together in one compo). Other compos were Worms prv. & IK+ gaming, Commodore knowledge, Commodore pillow sewing, activity and soccer. Furthermore some rare hardware was shown (SFD 1001 drive, IEEE488, centronics cable...). There were presentations of the new IDE64 DOS (supports native partitions, up to 128 GB HDDs, standard Atapi devices like ZIP and now has faster loading, faster saving and supports seeking too), Newcomer Rev.#0 IDE64 port (not official yet) and Worms clone game (actual phase, presentation and game compo). Download the releases here. Vincenzo?s tune "Artex" is the same as the one that contributed at the Assembly party. It was released at both parties because Vincenzo thought that it wouldn?t be released at Assembly, as Leon?s pic actually wasn?t. Last but not least, a bugfixed version of Commie Inside 9 (Hungarian magazine) was released. It had been first presented at SceneCON 2003, but there were syntactical errors. Additionally, issue 9.5 (another party edition) has been put out. Check the party photos here.

So, we hope you will enjoy reading! Please do not forget to fill our votesheet either spread by snail mail or use the online votesheet at Scene World Homepage! So, all the best and see you in 3 months with the next issue :) Please do not forget: Deadline for SWO#9 is October 1st, 2003!!!!!

LCP2003 - First C64 LAN Party? |
16:24 |
Like it or not, but LCP2003 might very well have been the world's first C64 LAN party :-). For the demonstration of the Contiki operating system, we hooked up a local-area network (LAN) between three C64s and one laptop PC using an Ethernet hub, one TFE Ethernet cartridge, and two RR-Net RetroReplay Ethernet cards. See pictures of the event over at Lemon64.com.
