LUnixNG version 0.21 is out |
12:40 |
I?d like to announce the release of LUnix Next Gerneration Version 0.21 !
http://lng.sourceforge.netLUnix Next Generation is an operating system for the bare Commodore 64, Commodore 128 and some Atari computers. It has support for TCP / IP, PPP, SLIP networking and clients for ftp, telnet and pop3. You can download the sourcecode and precompiled binaries for C64 and C128 from the URL above. Please read the release notes there (click on release number ?0.21? on the files page). The news in short: IDE64 supportenvironment variablesfixes, many bugfixesSilversurfer support (fifo64) (I hope it works)shell scripting support (#! interpreter)I know, I know. This should have happened about 2 years ago :). Well, that?s life. At least now LNG has a solid base to start with programming apps in C (cc65). Yes, with the o65 file format it is possible. LNG has been known a long time as an example of a C= network-enabled OS. I guess that there will be many questions about ethernet: TFE, ETH64 and so on. Please keep in mind that it will only happen if someone will write a driver that would handle the device and ARP level stuff. TCP / IP is already done. Please keep in mind that I?m not that person. With obligatory: Have fun! ytmSource: comp.sys.cbm

AC=ross Competition Survey |
13:22 |
C64 sceners go Across!
This is a survey among Commodore 64 sceners to see if enough people would participate in the Across competition.
Here?s the big deal:
In association with communities of other 8-bit platforms, we in XeNTaX would invite Commodore 64 sceners to create demos for non-Commodore platforms.
The AC=ross competetion is aimed at those Commodore c64 sceners that can show off their coding skills on other platforms, such as MSX, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad etc., but will always feature one platform per competition. More details and the poll can be found at the XeNTaX forum here:
Thread at XeNTaX forum
Please fill in the poll, so we know if there will be enough interest to set up such a competition! Thanks!

The 11th issue of Lotek64 is in the works. If you still want to contribute announcements, text, ideas or other things, you should contact Lord Lotek over the course of this week. Here is a first overview: * Lotek64 interview: Andre Hammer, leader of the computer games department in a specialized dealer in Graz (Austria), talks with us about, amongst other things, the role of retro products and his favorite games. * X68000 - the Japanese Amiga: Doraemon tells the story of this fascinating 16 bit computer, which suffered a similar destiny as the Amiga. [The CD console series will probably be omitted in this issue due to lack of space.] * Third Places. As previously mentioned in issue 10, there will be a great event in Graz, Austria, on the 16th October: Simon Quernhorst presents an exclusive demo on his Atari VCS while Hiram K?mper reviews the history of the C64. Lotek64 talked with them both and looks at their projects in more detail. * Adventure worlds: Mathes Alberto about Kosmos computer construction kits and the beginnings of home computing. * Paul Allan Panks demonstrates with his game Orathan how decent adventures can be programmed in BASIC. At last, something to type into, dudes! * The C64 joystick console C64-DTV will be shipped with some remarkable games, heres a detailed list of what will be included. * Demofixing - it can only get better. Experienced demo fixer Stephan Lesch talks to us about the typical bugs in demos and gives hints how they can be fixed. * C64 hardware tuning: Antitrack shows us how to build a 2 kernal switch. * "NES Classic" for the GBA: a review of all the latest Nintendo retro games. * Gianas Return: Dreamcast owners can look forward to many entertaining hours with a completely new Giana game.
