Commodore Price List - yet another news item gets a click-able link... Is anyone else impressed by the number people who put up links to their website without the href...? =-)

[10] : 04. Oct 2003 00:33
Anyone else impressed by the number of news posted that has nothing to do with the C-64 scene?

No.

Me!!! Seems like we are getting too tolerant!!! Any suggestions.
CreaMD

[13] : 04. Oct 2003 18:36
tmr: you better read the docs on the "add news" page properly before blaming that we are too dumb to do a href. "Text starting with www., http://, ftp., ftp:// will be automatically translated to html link."

[14] : 04. Oct 2003 19:49
What these docs don’t say is that such a text has to be surrounded by spaces, so automatical transfer to a html link won’t work if the address is e. g. in a seperate line. Hint: always put a space before and after the address, click "test" and remove these spaces again (if necessary).

[15] : 05. Oct 2003 03:31
Added Mail Madness! Party #6 to the partyscope.

[16] : 05. Oct 2003 20:04
for some reason my post magically turned into a bulk of text that actually has some uppercase letters .. what’s next?
dalezy.

[17] : 05. Oct 2003 20:30
CreaMD: Just start applying your policy like you used to do before. Don’t turn this into yet another news site for remixes, web sites, retro gaming and what have you. It’s pretty obvious what’s really scene related and what is not.
puterman

[18] : 05. Oct 2003 21:50
Puterman: It would be great to hear more supportive voices for this strict policy. Still I’m glad that you agree with me, together with Maccie and TMR. I’ll try to think about some improvement in this area so people who don’t feel hurt when their post is moved to beta-news. And people who "don’t scroll down to page" don’t miss the "beta-news updates"
CreaMD

[19] : 05. Oct 2003 22:03
The way how it says you’re not supposed to post non-scene news could perhaps be more direct..and more visible?

[20] : 06. Oct 2003 00:27
Ups I meant... people who post news.. don’t feel hurt when their news are moved to beta news. Cadaver: but there sometimes are interesting non-scene news. I really don’t wan’t this server to become too conservative
Roman ;-)

[21] : 06. Oct 2003 05:58
fuck the lot of you, I want to hear about more commodore systems for sale on ebay..!

[22] : 06. Oct 2003 05:59

as above

[23] : 06. Oct 2003 06:51
Yeah.. but it’d still be an improvement even if you do something else, like display all betanews in smaller font at the top.. "Content of this page is outlined in the info line of your browser" just makes you scratch your head as you try to understand what relevance it has at all regarding your news post :)

[24] : 06. Oct 2003 10:21
I’ve removed that "content of this page..."
CreaMD

[25] : 06. Oct 2003 11:16
Definite improvement!

[26] : 06. Oct 2003 11:38
Yummy, SIDcompoIII! I’m curious about new rules...

[27] : 06. Oct 2003 12:33
yay for sidcompo3
dlz

[28] : 06. Oct 2003 13:24
New rules: disallow GT entries if you want quality increase :)

[29] : 06. Oct 2003 13:53
Well, the previous edition had to be the time-for-a-change one, mutating the GT compo in a generic SIDcompo. Nowadays, the editor’s choice would be a fee point, or not? Oohhh, f*ck! Too many words: compose, join and stop breakin’balls! :D

[30] : 06. Oct 2003 13:54
Any C64 stuff from Mainframe? I’ve noticed that there was at least 1 C64 tune in competition. Cadaver: ;-)
CreaMD

[31] : 06. Oct 2003 13:54
fee=free, obviously...
Luca/FIRE

[32] : 06. Oct 2003 20:32
Right, people asked for and got - i moved a few posts into the beta news that i felt should be there and the programming compo post which i accidentally moved and blame on the blood in my caffeine system! (please post again fermhg if it’s still current) If anyone has a problem (please, no death threats this time okay?!) the usual address works and i’ll try to be a little more dillige... dilla... erm, on the ball in future.

[33] : 06. Oct 2003 22:47
Whohoo. SIDcompo III. Heeeeeeeeeere I come!
Richard

[34] : 07. Oct 2003 00:37
I just wonder if "I come" have the same connotations in English as "ich come" has in German language...
CreaMD

[35] : 07. Oct 2003 01:01
i’d call that a yes... =-)

[36] : 07. Oct 2003 08:27
Ops CreaMD... If I’d got the matter, "I come" is used that way in Italy too... *^_^*

[37] : 07. Oct 2003 10:48
"Ich come" ? whatever that should be :D Perverts... "Ich komme" has several meanings anyways :D

[38] : 07. Oct 2003 12:27
tmr, so basically demoscenestuff that’s beeing performed by sceners doesn’t belong to the scene news? i’m not moaning about that, maybe i got something wrong.
dlz.

[39] : 07. Oct 2003 14:10
This is C64 scene open news portal.. We don?t delete anything (except of junk of course) just keep it clean and focused. That?s why some news are moved to beta-news ("a.k.a" gossips, as well as k.a. "news dustbin"...) ;-)
CreaMD

[40] : 07. Oct 2003 14:19
Which doesn’t mean some scene-related news couldn’t be moved to beta-news. Decisions what to put to beta news are individual and are made with the best intentions. (at least I hope ;-)
CreaMD

[41] : 07. Oct 2003 16:04
Please tell me there will at least be alcohol prizes in Sid Compo III? Whatever happened to the good spirit, pardon the pun, of online happenings like SidWine? :)
Dane

[42] : 07. Oct 2003 16:14
Compos where the winner doesn’t get huge amounts of alcohol are killing the scene.
puterman

[43] : 07. Oct 2003 17:08
Dalezy: people wanted the "rules" tightening it seems, but as CreaMD says, it’s a judgement call for each editor. The browser topic mentions "scene" but not "sceners" so, since your gig isn’t technically a scene event but a general event with sceners involved (unless i’ve misunderstood, will there be C64 products released as with a party?) i felt it should be beta news. Under the same logic i will be moving any posts about future BIT Live gigs since they don’t count directly as scene either although i’ll give them a few days on the front page first, as i did for yours. That’s the only logical place i can see to draw the line without it appearing unfair.

[44] : 07. Oct 2003 17:56
Included the new Out of Orderia 2003 homepage in the partyscope. Mention the party now starts one day earlier: on 26th December.

[45] : 07. Oct 2003 21:22
tmr, that’s ok, i just wanted to see where the line between scene-stuff and scene-related stuff exactly is =) you guessed right, there isn’t any pure c64 releases coming out at that event, tho i plan to release the tunes that will be played at the event as a musick collection later on (maybe together with the visuals by krill? gotta talk to him concerning that matter).

[46] : 08. Oct 2003 00:17
scene oppressors!
fadez

[47] : 08. Oct 2003 02:27
Wheee! i didn’t get a death threat this time!! (And shaddap, fade. =-)

[48] : 08. Oct 2003 08:02
Well, someone has to keep the traditions alive, so here goes: TMR, I’ll kill you for moving "Commodore Price List" from the front page. I haven’t planned any visit to the UK in the near future, so it’d be more convenient if you just committed suicide on my command. I don’t want to waste money on long distance phone calls either, so maybe we could do this thing on IRC?
puterhitman

[49] : 08. Oct 2003 16:45
Edited the Sintech post for a bit of brevity and added a note about the supposedly unreleased Nobby The Aardvark. Puterman, i’ll catch you on IRC in the next couple of days - i’m just teaching my ghost to type so it can take over being a nuisance when i’m gone. =-)

[50] : 08. Oct 2003 17:09
TMR: I guess when Nobby was released, one outside of the UK you could hardly get it as an original. I bought my Nobby original from Sintech myself, cause that was where I first saw it was offered - at last.

[51] : 08. Oct 2003 18:34
Draft of the Sidcompo III rules written.. stay tuned.. it’s going to be launched later today!
CreaMD

[52] : 08. Oct 2003 21:04
Fade, TMR, why not have a go at trying composing some music for the SID compo. I’ll have go :)
Richard

[53] : 08. Oct 2003 22:21
Possibly because i’m not a musician?

[54] : 08. Oct 2003 23:40
if you join in, i’ll give it a try as well. seriously, if all of the currently active people enter the compo, i sense that it might turn out promising again. can’t wait for the contributions.

[55] : 09. Oct 2003 00:00
Uff...
CreaMD

[56] : 09. Oct 2003 08:43
Ooohh, dalezy, I know you usually appear in the end of sid compos as winner or as the worst. I’m curious about your entry this time :D (/me is a dalezy fan). Dane: yeah you’re right about nice prizes like wine ;_;

[57] : 09. Oct 2003 11:30
To the DMC I go :)
Richard

[58] : 09. Oct 2003 12:05
The rules say "no covers" - since that’s all i ever do, i can’t play anyway. =-)

[59] : 09. Oct 2003 12:10
How about if we organised a spin-off SID music cover compo lasting exactly 24 hours. Rule: make a cover of (yet to be chosen) XYZ tune (MP3 will be provided). What do you think? ;-))
CreaMD

[60] : 09. Oct 2003 13:24
Hey CreaMD! You astonished me, it’s a great idea! :O

[61] : 09. Oct 2003 15:12
TMR, why not get some inspiration and compose something with your favourite tracker. Maybe EMS V7.03???
Richard

[62] : 09. Oct 2003 16:05
nice idea, yet i think i only had 2 hours time for it :)

[63] : 09. Oct 2003 16:25
[Sigh] Lets put this in a way Richard might actually understand... Because. i’m. Not. A. Musician. i can’t write music which is why all the tunes i’ve ever done are note-for-note conversions from ProTracker, check all my entries in the STIL because they’re all conversions. And i’ve never used EMS V7.03, either.

[64] : 09. Oct 2003 17:48
CreamD - the idea about a cover compo is very cool - but I would suggest you have 4-5 different tunes to choose from for making the cover. I support the 24h idea, however, but this should then be during a weekend. Some information about the spin-off compo well in advance would also be welcome.
Dane

[65] : 09. Oct 2003 17:57
;-)) that was just an idea, if there will be such compo I will say the date and hour of the compo in advance ;-).
CreaMD

[66] : 09. Oct 2003 18:15
Umm... just had a thought, do HSVC updates count as beta news...?

[67] : 09. Oct 2003 18:36
For HVSC... imho they may stay in alpha. Although HVSC is mostly related to emulation, a) they do a great job and b) you can still convert files from HVSC back to C64 files, or play the .sid files with certain programs on C64.

[68] : 09. Oct 2003 22:28
richard: i may do one if i have time, colouring good is hardest.

Yup I’ll do that.

[74] : 10. Oct 2003 12:50
Strange that I already corrected the Fyanica #10 link (the first one actually) right after it was posted...?

[75] : 10. Oct 2003 13:02
In the news post I mean...
CreaMD

[76] : 11. Oct 2003 13:04
Since the given link for the Publication #50 disk cover gave me a "Forbidden - You don’t have permission to access /releases/Publication_50_(Cuc).zip on this server.", I changed it from a direct link to a link to the Obsession homepage.
Please, when supplying direct links to files, be sure the hosting server doesn’t block it.

[77] : 11. Oct 2003 14:27
Updated the "Publication #50 - disk cover" posting again, it’s now the way Magnate desired :-)

[78] : 11. Oct 2003 21:18
Someone should put a big banner on the first page saying: Post only Scene news here! For the other news post on www.c64.org
Mihai

[79] : 12. Oct 2003 00:09
Some people have a different definition of what "scene" means...

[80] : 12. Oct 2003 00:20
TMR got the point :-)

[81] : 12. Oct 2003 16:09
what about ob-scene postings ? they include the scene, too

[82] : 12. Oct 2003 17:31
Depends... if they’re dodgy pictures of you we’ll let them stay. =-)

[83] : 12. Oct 2003 23:07
"HVSC is mostly related to emulation"? Come on, MacGyver. Haven’t you noticed that our goal is to make the collection as compatible with real C64 as possible? Did you miss the whole load of real C64 fixes included in last few updates? We are trying to achieve the point where _every_ sid in HVSC works properly on a C64 (apart from PlaySID specific digitunes, but that’s pretty obvious...). It’s quite possible that we’ll release the collection in .prg executable format (with a little help from PSID64) one day, as soon as we make sure that no .prg file will fail on a real machine.
SB

[84] : 12. Oct 2003 23:21
it would be much better to release some universal player with nice frontend for playing sids (best would be if you could simply connect XE1541 cable or how is it named) to PC and to C64 and launch the stuff ;-))
CreAMD

[85] : 12. Oct 2003 23:37
And of course possibility to read directory of a c64 disk and select from there too. (so it wouldn’t be PC dependent ;-)
CreaMD

[86] : 13. Oct 2003 08:14
SB: From what I’ve understood, this site is mainly about C-64 releases, and HVSC doesn’t count as a C-64 release, so it shouldn’t be announced here.
puterman

[87] : 13. Oct 2003 10:10
Mac and i have already talked about it at greater length - we do feel that the HVSC updates have relevance so they’ll be staying on the main news. HVSC has seen a lot of unreleased tunes getting their first airing so, and i admit i’m forcing things to fit a little here, it sort of counts. =-)

[88] : 13. Oct 2003 16:34
SB: You didn’t get my point. "Although HVSC is mostly related to emulation" wasn’t meant as an assessment of the HVSC Crew’s work BUT about the way most people use HVSC - and it’s clear HVSC Crew has kind of limited influence on that. Having that in mind, read my posting [67] again. I think everything else has been said :-)

[89] : 13. Oct 2003 16:40
Mac, I know you didn’t mean it the way it might have come out. Even we know that 99% of the people listen to HVSC on something else than a real C64. Still, the whole collection (apart from a few black sheep that we’ll try to fix step by step) can be listened to on a real C64 with the appropriate tools. No need to argue.

[90] : 14. Oct 2003 09:17
What I fear is that soon it will be the way "What isn’t in HVSC doesn’t exist" - and there’s still a lot missing in directories one would expect being already full - e.g. I haven’t met Jon Dunn’s Batman the Movie there, a b*r*i*l*l*i*a*n*t game soundtrack. Well, I use PC for C=64 purposes and accept the inevitable but my feelings are the same as Puterman’s. :)
Wotnau

[91] : 14. Oct 2003 09:33
Batman The Movie’s soundtrack was by Matthew Cannon wasn’t it...?

[92] : 14. Oct 2003 09:43
Yup. hvsids\Cannon_Matthew\Batman_The_Movie.sid
CreaMD

[93] : 14. Oct 2003 09:47
Sometimes there are tunes first released in HVSC too. I don’t think the odd bit of HVSC news every few months will hurt, make an exeption for it.
Stryyker

[94] : 14. Oct 2003 10:36
Yeah, don’t be so hostile to us, folks. ;-) 3 updates a year won’t clutter c64.sk. And Wotnau, HVSC is not complete yet, it probably never will be. If an important tune is missing just tell us and we’ll rip and add it ASAP. And the fact that certain tunes aren’t in directories where you would expect them is based on our good contacts to the old classical composers. You know, there have been weird things going on back then, like one classic composer making music for another one (that happened to live next door), because the required style fit him better. Now that the game companies won’t chop the composers head off anymore we of course move some tunes to the directories of the composers who _really_ did the tunes. The accompanying *.hvs files in the /DOCUMENTS folder are always interesting to read for that matter. ;-)

Moved "SLAY Radio is BACK!" to the Beta-News.
Edited / styled the coded real-time picture sequences posting, plus added the event to the partyscope.

I got the [100], oh yeah! ;-) Using it to mention I moved "HardSID PCI in Pre-Order" to the Betas. Honest opinions welcome, dull yelling not =)

Well, I have anyway again POL news or SWO news to post then, that’s my business and I think there’s no double post then. But I agree the beta news should be able to get recognized better to avoid repeats in future...

Hmmm. Reading VN #40, I stumbled upon some interesting errors in my own articles. "Doesn’t included", "1-3.VIIIII.2003" and so on. They’re interesting mainly because they don’t appear in original texts that I sent. Strange.

SB: hmmm, sorry if I edited over this, there was so much text it allowed an increase chance of errors. However I can confirm I re-uploaded the bugfixed version of VN#40 with Jammer’s tune now playing 2xspeed. Perfectionists like myself and likewise can leech it from Jammer’s tune is now fixed. It was playing one-speed only for some reason. Now it plays two speed. For the bug-fixed version if your a perfectionist, http://c64.rulez.org/onslaught/mags/vn_40.zip Hope you enjoyed it anyway.

Time...? Not as much as i used to, since i’m one of the editors here they sort of expect me to show up occasionally... =-)

When I read the editorial II I had so strong feelings of being powerless that I was very close to have tears in my eyes. It was not anger, but overwhelming feeling of sadness. Was it the music or fresh recollections of the movie version of "The Quiet American" by Graham Greene, starring Michael Caine? Nowadays I often ask myself. Why do some people think they know best what the other people need. Does the history has to repeat all the time? Such questions are always like opening a can of worms, but I can’t help myself to think that when the help is not offered with love and compassion and is enforced arrogantly with the words "I know best what is good for you, your life (or your country), it is a very wrong philosophy.

Too bad people don’t know D64 files can be compressed in many different ways... even C64 can handle zip. People do use 56Kbit and below lines.

I don’t understand it either. It’s not only the compression, but also the mime type that may cause problems on some platforms or browsers.

Richard, is that an "OFFICIAL" update, or did you just add your biblet sprites yourself?
