[6] : 01. Nov 2003 10:39
Okay, trashed the C64HQ competition, Richard’s email address (please, in future don’t spam the portal with it Richard) and i fixed the Scene World link and sent that to beta as well. Now, i’m going back to bed!

[7] : 01. Nov 2003 11:11
Oh well, couldn’t sleep so updated the downloads list as well... =-)

[11] : 01. Nov 2003 16:29
Added Deus Ex Screenshots to the downloads - it’s just a couple of uncompressed IFLI stills converted from the game...

[12] : 01. Nov 2003 19:22
Fixed fermhg’s original post and removed the second one with the correction.

[13] : 02. Nov 2003 00:21
I wonder why the Vandalism News article has vanished so suddenly? Problems with the database or completely drunk mods? ;-) Anyway, it’s in the download section now, so I think it has nothing to do with a conspiracy or something... :D
Steppe

[14] : 02. Nov 2003 01:34
Nope, just look at the October news - it’s just too old to be on the front page now.

[15] : 02. Nov 2003 12:32
Hm, maybe it just moved down too quickly... Anyway I think I checked all news of october (still back then in october), and the VN40 entry wasn’t there anymore. Well, maybe my mistake. :-)
Steppe

[16] : 02. Nov 2003 13:20
It’s still there, i got the URL from it when i updated the downloads. =-)

"the leading bbs for the Amiga/PC/C64 demoscene, "Uphold the Law" is back online"

aha...interisting...the c64 part anyhow :o)
gpz

[55] : 08. Nov 2003 15:08
I’ve tried but I think I don’t get all that bbs stuff what is it about? Should I put it into betanews?
CreaMD

[56] : 08. Nov 2003 16:19
It seems to be a real BBS, although i can’t check the file lists until the account i set up is validated by the sysop. Leave it with me, if it’s not C64 i’ll trash it in the next day or so.

[57] : 08. Nov 2003 17:43
CreamD, there are several old BBS systems going online with Telnet access. \"Uphold the law\" has a C64 section, as does \"Antidote\".

@ AMB: So where are the 5 tunes from bcnparty? ;-)

[64] : 09. Nov 2003 14:07
@ AMB: Thanks for uploading the bcnparty musics to our affiliate Goin’ 4 Gold. Added the download link to the news item.

If you did a new release, but don’t have webspace to host it, feel free to upload it to GFG and drop an email to me and Anonym / Padua. After it was moved to the right dir, you can post the news with DL link here then.

tmr’s postings moved to beta news...

[68] : 12. Nov 2003 09:19
Y’see... i’m supposed to put something in the reactions when i move news articles to beta so i is just doing what i was told okay?! Speaking of which, Slay Radio promo moved to beta. =-)

[69] : 12. Nov 2003 09:50
Jason means news items ofcourse, not articles ;-)

[70] : 12. Nov 2003 12:10
when beta news is beta news, is the ones you see the alpha-stuff? and when will we get teta-news? and are the reactions some sort of gamma or what?
a confused reader

[71] : 12. Nov 2003 12:21
We are so kind that we don’t delete the unsuitable news completely and rather keep them for users who are interested in all sort of tidbits, gossips and news not useful for sceners, or the Commodore64 8-bit machine users. Active and productive C64 scene is preffered, passive scene (various retro projects (focused on past), web page projects, hobby projects, PC remixes, PC remakes etc. etc.) are ususally (with few valuable exceptions) moved to beta news.
CreaMD

[72] : 12. Nov 2003 12:27
@ 70: read ABOUT and HELP. If you are still confused, you should ask more clear and serious questions. Also, maybe include your real (nick)name and maybe an email address...?

[73] : 12. Nov 2003 12:46
[Sigh] much as i hate doing it... request for banner free webspace suggestions moved to beta...

[74] : 12. Nov 2003 12:47
WEC, if you actually realized your posting wasn’t news, WHY did you post it to our NEWS? Why not to our reactions here, or to any of the Forums we link?

[75] : 12. Nov 2003 15:25
Maybe you should pick some more fitting name than "beta news". I suppose the word "beta" is used in the same way as in "beta version [of some software]", which means approximately "finished, but might need some more testing before release".
puterman

[76] : 12. Nov 2003 17:27

The Back Cover news? Other news? Rejected news? Additional news? Nonscene news? Less important news? Other news and advertisements? Alternative News?
CreaMD

[79] : 13. Nov 2003 08:23
"Crap" might be provocative enough to make people a bit more hesitant about posting their off-topic stuff. :-)
puterman

[80] : 13. Nov 2003 08:38
Some "trashed" news aren’t crap news, they just don’t fit into the main news. Some of the betanews are interesting. The name of this feauture shouldn’t suggest that we don’t respect the posters.
CreaMD

[81] : 13. Nov 2003 11:25
whatabout sidenews?
shake

[82] : 13. Nov 2003 11:40
CreaMD: If I say "this tune is crap", does that mean I don’t respect the people who have made it? No. If people post news that are off topic, does that mean they respect the site and the people who view it? Probably not. If they’d bothered to check, they’d noticed that their off topic posts might be moved into a section called "beta news", "crap", "retro news" or whatever. I fail to see what it has to do with respecting people.
puterman

[83] : 13. Nov 2003 12:33
Crap is fine, especially to those who understand the Aussie way. Here it is a slang term for stuff. Can be used to be non insulting
Stryyker

[84] : 13. Nov 2003 12:59
Puterman: some people sometimes contact us by e-mail and explain their views on things which sometimes differ on our view on things. Some even more-or-less persuade us that their activites support the active C64 scene etc. etc. Not always we trash news of people who don’t care to read the policies (guidelines for posting). Some of them do find the reasons why they think the news is valuable. I consider respect towards all posters important. I think, if there was some decent way hot to make betanews a little bit more "visible" that would maybe prevent some complaints of disappointed news posters. (like that idea of "turbo64" retro news we were once talking about at IRC ;-)
CreaMD

[85] : 13. Nov 2003 16:09
Here’s a great and respectful name for the section then: "News from Turbo64".
puterman

[86] : 13. Nov 2003 16:32
As the C=64 is the center of our universe and the trashed news are more or less distant from the center, how about something like "News from the orbit", "Surrounding news", "Additional news" or even simple and neutral "Other news"? OtoH, I’ve never had a single problem with Beta. For me it means something rather secondary but not swept under the carpet.
Ant/Aardwark Designs :)

[87] : 13. Nov 2003 17:49
How about it all stays on the front page unless someone selects "no beta news" - if it’d be possible to store user preferences in a cookie all the better.

[88] : 13. Nov 2003 21:33
how about related news .. puterman for scene president!

[89] : 13. Nov 2003 21:37

"G?tta by Fairlight" got bugfixed. The Download Link now points to Goin’ 4 Gold, as several people had problems to download from Maktone’s webspace (including me).

puterman
