Melwoods Journey by Creators released today |
19:56 |
C64 view updates(image viewer for Mac/DOS/Windows). The Macintosh port of C64View, a freeware cross-platform Commodore 64 image viewer, has been updated. This new version features drag-and-drop operation and improved UI, as well as correcting OS X compatibility bugs and introducing a new Classic version for 68K Macintoshes and non-Carbon Power Macs. It preserves the Mac-specific converter capability, allowing you to convert your Commodore images into PICT files for import to your favourite Mac application. C64View?s DOS version is also still available, and is compatible with Win32 as well as DOS 5.0 and up. You can capture the DOS version screen in Windows to export images, or use your favourite screen-grab TSR. C64View supports KoalaPainter, Doodle!, 8K bitmaps (including Flexidraw and Print Shop Screen Magic) and 1K colourmaps. Sample images are included. Download from www.armory.com/~spectre/cwi/c64view. C64View is freeware. Source: Commodore Homestead Mailinglist

Floppy 2003 releases |
21:27 |
Here is what you all have been waiting for since yesterday, all the releases from FLOPPY 2003!
The zip file contains everything that competed in the various competitions at the party, except the demo from Hack?N?Trade since they showed a beta version and didn?t want it to be spread just yet. Good news is that the HT boys promised to finish the demo soon and release it themselves.
Yet another demo is included in the file, Back Again from AlphaFlight 1970. Since none from AFL could attend the party in person, we couldn?t let it compete, but we promised to officially show and spread it on FLOPPY, which we did.
Finally, the organizers wish to thank all our guests for making FLOPPY 2003 yet another very special and successful C64 event! Taper/TRIAD

TRIAD/HARMONIOUS, a small demo by King Fisher, scored the fifth place in the FLOPPY 2003 democompetition and can now be downloaded from this link.
Please note that since emulators in general are rather stupid and seems not to cope very well with randomized numbers, we advise you to use a real machine for best performance. For the non-swedish speaking audiance we can hint that the introscroller is about one of these days when everything goes wrong...

Just released: ConGo Shell Extension Beta 0.80 |
17:46 |
ConGo Shell Extension makes Explorer "Commodore ready".
ConGoSE does for Commodore disk images - D64, D71 and D81 - what "ZIP folders" do for zipped files. You can double click them and they will open in the very familiar Explorer window. BUT there is more. You can, of course, rename files, delete files, add files, export files and you can do this by using context menus OR drag?n drop. Also, you can inspect the files in different ways.
First, there are preview modes available for all your picture files. Koala, FLI, IFLI... all the C64 files supported by ConGo are shown as smaller or larger thumbnails. SECOND you can view the contents of all files by a simply opening their properties page (right click).
On it, you get picture view, hex view, ascii view, petscii view, disassembled and detokenized view. THIRD in "details" view mode you see all Commodore specific attributes - track/sector of first block, Geos file types and even the Geos icon. FOURTH you can switch to BAM view showing free and used sectors on disk. And FIFTH you can run files by a double click in either CCS, VICE or ConGo.
Finally you can change Cbm file types of course and give the disk a new name and ID. ConGoSE runs on all newer Windows versions starting from Win98 (Win95 a DLL update coming with IE 5). Of course, this is Beta software, so if you find any bugs, I appreciate feedback...
ConGoSE is available from www.editorix.org/congo/ and it is freeware.

Greetings All,
The magazine gamesTM are going to cover new software on old formats! In their article, "The Living Dead" page 86 to 91, issue 3, they only mentioned the Commodore 64 once, but with enough feedback and encouragement, I?m quite confident that the magazine will start taking the C64/128 a little more seriously!

SIDBoost your Amiga! |
18:16 |
There is a new SID player for Amiga made by Glover/Samar called SidBooster. Forget about older players like PlaySid or Sid4Amiga. This is the best SID emulation on Amiga and it can be compared only with original C64!
Recommended is at least 68040/40 and full installed MUI (most plugins). Works perfectly on my A4000/060/56Mhz, all BoingBags installed and Kick 3.9 (3.1 with ROM Patch from OS 3.9).
"imagepool.library" was needed for my miggy (can be found on AmiNet).
Grab it from www.emu64.pl/menu.php?art=98.

Here is the latest information on the German-language magazine Lotek64: 1. Technical and personal stuffIt is VERY likely that Lord Lotek won't have much spare time from March onwards so, to keep up the present release cycle, he needs more participation by the readers. Please send him more texts in the future and a big thank you to all who have done that so far. To avoid work piling up at his end, he?ll stop searching for a homepage provider. He had some friendly offers but, since he doesn?t know how to maintain the site, he won't proceed further at this time but will keep the domain registered if anyone wants to design and maintain the Lotek64 web site he?ll gladly support them. In any case, he doesn't want to overload himself any more. 2. Lotek64 #05Here's a small teaser of what you can expect: - closing of the interview series with the former ASM editorship: Martina Strack - Antitrack talks about his past in the cracker scene, his current projects and the highlights of his career in a detailed interview - continuation of the CD console series: the NEC consoles and the CD-i - the Lotek64 tinkering section in cooperation with the emucorner: CD Player (and arbitrary other audio sources) as mass storage on the C64 - Reviews, dates, nostalgia and a lot more... Lord Lotek is pleased to announce a welcomed new section; from the next issue on, Lotek64 will feature a comic strip. Watch this space for more information about that... The magazine is due to be released on the 10th of March, although delays can happen. For anything concerning Lotek64, contact Lord Lotek.

Pinball Dreams C64 news |
14:10 |
The following text was written by WVL/Xenon and has been taken from the CSDb-Forum. Please give him some feedback! Hey guys/girls, instead of updating my homepage all the time, I though I could open a new thread here instead. This will also allow other ppl to comment on the development. okay, so whassup at the moment? Well, last month I completely restarted from scratch on the code. Why? Well, first I wanted to concentrate more on getting the game to run in less memory, also I wanted to focus more on accurate simulation of the ball and some small other things... What I have done till now : 1 - spawned the ball ;-) 2 - added gravity to the surroundings, the gravity data is now RLE encoded, so it doesn’t take up much memory anymore. Used to eat 20 blocks of memory, now I think a map would use 3-4 blocks.. 3 - I changed the gravity routine to use polar-based vectors instead of cartesean, much more accurate! 4 - added a debug mode to the movement routines, you’re able to pick up the ball with the firebutton and move it around. Let go of the button and you drop it on the table again. 5 - Worked on an accurate (within 1 ’bradian’ degree) direction calculation routine. This routine will be used for both friction calculations and calculating new directions after collisions. So it needs to be 6 - added a (simple) friction routine. 7 - I put a small preview on the web ;-) get it at www.interstyles.nl/pinball.rarokay, what am I up to now? 1 - increase the speed accuracy to 24 bit, I need this because the friction only affects speed in the last 3 bits or so, so it’s not accurate at all.. 2 - add spin to the ball, so it is allowed to roll.. (also gives effect to the ball like top-spin and such) 3 - dunno yet, I’ll see what is the next logical step after that.. probably the new method of collision detection, dunno.. I’m thinking of putting the sourcecode online as ascii file, so everyone can check it out... Suggestions? Questions? other stuff? Send email or post on CSDb-Forum. greets, Werner

Our fellow ZX Spectrum Scene News portal www.raww.org is celebrating it?s 3rd year in business today. Design of the site went through radical change. Quoting icabod: "Those of you with a good eye for detail may have noticed that raww.org has had a make-over. It?s true, the site has changed rather dramatically. Gone is the clunky html editing I did in a text editor, we?re now running PostNuke. Oh it?ll take a moment to get things really into gear, but we?ll get there." Happy Birthday and Long live raww.org!
