C64 spreadsheet program |
20:37 |
Do you have to deal with lists, data collections and analysis, do you think that common spreadsheet programs are teasing the user and do you have a clue about C64 BASIC? If the answer is yes, you might be interested in C64 Datatool. History: I've never found a spreadsheet program that I really liked, on either the C64, Amiga or PC. While some Amiga programs and older versions of MS-Excel were sufferable, I found the MS-Office assistant popping up and offering megabytes of useless answers annoying and the appearance of this paperclip guy usually lead me to shutting down the PC, starting up my C64 and writing a little BASIC program that processes my humble request in a straightforward way. The disadvantage of this method is that inputting and editing data in BASIC is not very comfortable. C64 Datatool is thought to be a friendly resort under this circumstances and, after extensive testing and a few adjustments, the program can be considered finished now. Features: The program provides a grid of 26 columns and 999 rows, usable for either words or numbers. Editing functions implemented include shifting, cutting and pasting columns or rows, as well as the usual spreadsheet functions like search, sort and print. The chief attraction is that formulas are fully programmable in C64 BASIC. There is no limitation to the code, thus even complex BASIC programs can be run inside Datatool, which opens wide fields of application. You can "roll your own" templates for databases, accounting, calculation of tax, statistics, etc. and you can easily store and print data in tabular form without programming. Access: More information (in English and German) and a download link can be found here: members.chello.at/wiener.freiheit/datatool.htmThe page also includes a detailed manual, although the people who have tested the program so far have told me that this is pretty much redundant because the GUI is nice and intelligible. Additionally the program provides a topical help (push CTRL) that gives accurate advice, because fortunately the C64 can't waste megabytes on blabber. ;-) By the way, C64 Datatool is being used to manage the discotheque "Wiener Freiheit", located in the centre of Vienna.

New C64 text adventure |
18:55 |
If anybody speak Polish, hehehe, and he's interested in the Commodore 64 version of Hooy-Program's text-adventure converted from ZX Spectrum, the game is ready. (Thanx, JAD!!!) Here is the link: http://republika.pl/hooyprogram/duplandc64.zipIt's quite interesting, as they strictly converted Speccy graphix to the C64 platform. Quite interesting effect. :)

Froggy Goes Splat - Final Version (V1.1) |
12:19 |
The previous version of Froggy goes Splatt had a bug, where the player in the middle of the road had gone splat. The sprites had to be moved slightly to prevent this problem. There was also another bug which caused the moving frog (going left and right continuously) to stop. I have now fixed these bugs and added an additional routine, and changed the music. Download the 100% version - directly from C64.sk

Transparent C64 cartridge cases! |
18:03 |
Good news about the Cases for Retro Replay and other C64 cartridges: I found a company that made them in the 80s, and today they confirmed that the tooling is still there and can be used to make transparent cases, as well as other RAL colours. The estimated price of 4, -EUR each can now be seen as a final price including the German VAT rate of 16% for the two-part case (to be precise: Both parts in a bundle make one case, and once case costs 4,- EUR). Volume discounts:
25 cases: 90,- EUR (translates to 3,60 EUR each, or 10%=10,- EUR discount)
100 cases: 340,- EUR (translates to 3,40 EUR each, or 15%=60,- EUR discount)
Shipping in Germany is done with GLS or Deutsche Post at the lowest possible rates, Shipping to the Netherlands can be done at regular PTT rates. Shipping to the US will also be domestic. People from all other countries should consider mass-ordering or ask their local supplier (check my retail partners on www.ami.ga -> contact page).
Please continue voting for colours. If we get enough votes, we might be able to do two production runs with different colours. So far, only 58 people made their choice, but I?d expect that more people are interested in new C64 cartridge cases, now that they?re only a few weeks away:
http://rr.c64.org/casevoting/index.php?vote=1
The cases are not 100% commodore-like. They have a 3mm centering pin in the middle, and no screw (case is just clipped close). The original Commodore cases had a 5mm centering thing with a screw through it. The Retro Replay will stay perfectly in place because of it?s buttons and the exact width. Other cartridges (especially smaller ones) might need additional holding inside the case.
All holes must be made by you! There are no holes for the buttons, for the jumpers or for the Silversurfer. The cases are made generic, so they can be used for more than just RR. I?m hoping for interesting case-moddings with lots of LEDs, switches, buttons and whatever you can think of ;-)

News from the Stock |
13:23 |
Hello, it's the first time I've used this forum to spread Stock news, but why not? Firstly, Werner-Soft stopped all C64 activities and I also lost my co-leader in April. A new production was done called "Saddam - Der Sympathische" - one side full of pictures converted from data-land and spread by the Stock. Watch out for a demo called "We Failed", done by Patience (Hoogo and Iceman's old group) and spread by the Stock and I've added my new "Koala Time" on the disk too. Also, enjoy Iceman's music collection. As the next Giana arrives from the Darklords, there is a fix from H-Bloxx of Excess done at a meeting at Stormfront's place. If you'd like to get the 6-disksides game Erotika from A&S software then send me disks and I send you a nice blocks uncheated, no picture bug version. So if you like do your own packed or IFFL'd version.
If you think the Stock is not active, I tell you that you're wrong. We gave the long awaited verificator, music search, editor and our data to Tiger Disk. The B+F suffix is Firefox of Art Design Studios and Baracuda. If you'd like to get news about the Stock, simply look at Tiger-Disk, Mail Madness, Scene World or at our homepage.
If you like my picture collections watch out for more, if you like working stuff watch out for the Stock Wares List (SWL) including working stuff out of my collection and if you like to help me finding some old stuff as working, watch out for my searchlist (SL).

C64.SK?S PIXEL COMPETITION |
13:28 |
Well, you?ve probably heard already about some of the online sid-compos (C64.sk?s, Dane?s, or Sidwine...), or cover-compos (Cover of the Millenium, Forgotten Ideas, Mermaid?s...) that were held during the last few years. You liked them, didn?t you? Some of you even participated in those...
Unfortunately, online pixelling-compos are far more scarce, we?d even go as far as saying that there weren?t any c64 graphics-only, free style contests on the net. Now we?re trying to plant the seeds of an annual pixel competition to be arranged by some very spirited C64 sceners.
And what would we have here? Click and find out!
