Uncover - Reloaded! |
13:48 |
Hello after long ... over one month pause! It was needed because we redesigned all the site nearly from scratch. As you can see - we have new graphics and the code is now using PHP (I needed to learn PHP in one week!) so we have new attractions like comments or the news archive. Sadly in result of the intesive work with the technical side there wasn?t enough free time to write new articles and finish the gallery but we?ll do our best to improve this. I added an interview with Ryo Kawasaki. We?ve gained new cooperators - I hope that with their help Uncover will be stronger! Also I?d like to thank all who supported Uncover. http://uncover.makii.plNew stuff: Interview with Ryo Kawasaki + his music [sid] and programs for C64 [prg/d64]

Commodore Billboard double-CD available! |
01:51 |
Starting today, the double-CD with the contents of the Commodore Billboard is available. The second CD contains a recent mirror of the CBM-Funet archive, which is maintained by Marko M?kel?. It also contains files that were removed from the archive lately. Many thanks again to Marko who has mastered the second CD.
Nearly all files of the double-CD can be downloaded for free on the internet under www.commodorebillboard.deand www.funet.fi/pub/cbm
Running websites of this scale costs a lot of money. All profits of the CDs will be used to run the websites with their high volume traffic.
We encourage our customers to copy the CDs, and to make them available in sharing-services. All this will help us in reducing the cost of the websites. Those who want to donate to the websites can buy the double-CD for about 15,- EUR from our retail partners.
The Commodore Billboard is created from user contributions. Everyone who contributed so far gets the double-CD for the price of shipment. Distribution of the free CDs is done by Stefan "Galaktus" Zelazny, the new webmaster of the Commodore Billboard. Please contact him via eMail if you want such a free CD. New contributions are also rewarded with a free CD!
A picture of the double-CD can be seen at www.siliconsonic.de/news/billboard.jpg

Retro Replay party coming up! |
03:59 |
Hi sceners,
as promised with the start of the Retro Replay project, I will sponsor a party from the profits I made on it. Now that the carts are sold out, its time to go ahead with organisation. Three possible weekends in september, please give comments (good reasons!) why a certain weekend would be bad for the party:
septeber 12th-14th
september 19th-21st
september 26th-28th
..and dont use the nospam address, thats completely filtered. Use my real address or the contact form on www.ami.ga instead.
Nice detail of the party location: Its an air-raid shelter from world war II which has no windows. Neither 2000, nor XP ;-)
Remember that the eBay auction for the first and the last Retro Replay is still running. A new Retro Replay production run? Its in your hands!

20 questions with... |
12:21 |
Hello people!
www.c64hq.com is working on a new section where we will put up lots of interviews with people who were a part of the C64 scene (if you?re getting any In Medias Res vibes, then you know what this is all about).
If you are/were a member of any cracking or demo group, please answer the questions below and send them to andreas.wallstrom@chello.se.
Thanks in advance!
Andreas / Morpheus of Flash Incorporated
--------------------------------------------------?
QUESTIONS START
--------------------------------------------------?
Give us some information about yourself (full name, age, birthplace and date, where you reside, job and interests).
What handle(s) did you have and how did you come up with it/them?
What group(s) were you in?
What tasks did you have (swapper, coder, artist, musician, organizer etc.)?
Between what years were you active?
Tell us about those years and how you got in to the scene in the first place.
How could a typical day infront of the computer look like?
Did you self-invent any special techniques or tools to make things easier for you?
If you take a look at what you did back then, what are you most proud of?
Who were your scene heroes and why?
What was the coolest thing someone invented on the C64? (It could be a tool, a routine etc.)
Did you go to copy-parties, meetings or tradeshows?
What was the scene all about in your opinion?
What were the highlights? (Favourite event, demo etc.)
Any cool stories to share with us?
Are you in contact with old C64 people today?
When did you get your C64 and do you still have it lying around somewhere?
Was the C64 really that special that we like to think it was?
When can we expect to see a new C64 production from you?
Do you have a message to your old contacts and everyone else reading this?
--------------------------------------------------?
QUESTIONS END

FAIRLIGHT not dead! |
03:49 |
Posted on Lemon64 (Scene Forum):
Howdy hackers!
I?d like to add to what?s been said here by quoting a document I recently produced for serving as a scroller for an upcomming demo:
[Quote]
During the long years, since the group FairLight saw it?s dusk, we have seen lots of things phases. We?ve created a reputation by our activities on C64, Amiga, Super Nintendo and PC. It?s in the news that ?FairLight is dead and that 16 years is enough due to the dangers involved in the business?. Let me just point out a few things; One of the mottos of FairLight was ?Built stronger to last longer? and this is ever more true today than ever, so let me be very clear WE ARE NOT DEAD!
Holder of the name is the council trio Strider (founder), JBM (Amiga and PC) and Bacchus (Commodore64). The group FairLight is then made up of independent sections on different platforms. Some people know each others across the section borders but this is a limited few. No member is entitled to kill the group, but their section might be closed. This has happened with the PC ISO section recently but this is nothing new. It has happened with the SNES section once and also the PC section once before. The latter due to the bust of the ?Not So Humble Babe?, in case anyone around has a recollection which reaches that far back. The group is stronger than the sections ? the group is an organism with more than one cell. If a dedicated team of crackers looked us up and wanted to continue where the last ISO section left, we might consider the offer to work under the FairLight brand.
For now our activities are limited to demos on the PC and C64, kindly supervised by Pantaloon and VDK respectively. So we are in the somewhat unfamiliar position of not having an active cracking section, but is a girlfriend in a coma ? not rigor mortis.
So until you see a statement by Strider, JBM and Bacchus declaring our death, don?t believe what you read. And perhaps you shouldn?t anyway, as both Strider and myself have ensured that there is a new generation of FairLighters ready to take over from their fathers when that day comes.
Remember that FairLight was built stronger to last longer. Remember that legends never die. Remember that FairLight is like space ? if we have an outer border, it?s well beyond human grasp. Remember that we?ll give you reasons not to forget again and again.
/Bacchus ? FairLight council spokesperson

Commodore Billboard back online |
23:26 |
The Commodore Billboard is back online! The initiator of the project, S?ren Ladegaard (Denmark) had to drop the project due to lack of time in January 2003, and transferred the website to individual Computers. They're now sponsoring the website that can cause a lot of traffic with it's several hundred megabytes in size. During the past half year, the new webmaster Stefan Zelazny has converted the audio and video files to mpeg and mp3, so the website can be viewed on most platforms. For example, the Realplayer is not necessary any more.
Currently, the website is available under the address www.commodorebillboard.de. The .com domain will be made available in the coming weeks. If you're interested in a local copy of the website, you can support them in paying for the high cost of the website by ordering the CD. It will be available in August this year from all their retail partners for about 15,- EUR. The double-CD package also contains some surprises for Commodore-fans!

Mass order NEW 5.25" disks at forum-64.de |
17:31 |
Hi folks, as I just read there?s a mass-ordering of NEW 5.25" disks going on at www.forum-64.de. They?re ordering it from an American company, so: The more people order disks, the cheaper it gets. I figure this is mainly interesting especially for Germans, but probably also for people living in the EU or adjacent countries, if you decide to order a high enough quantity to even out the shipping costs from Germany to your country. Read more about it here: www.forum-64.de/wbb2/thread.php?threadid=1155&sid(The announcement with the prices) www.forum-64.de/wbb2/thread.php?threadid=1153&sid(Post here to order) Regards, Steppe
