JC Assembler v0.97 with its source code |
00:26 |
It all began on January 22nd, 2004. I woke up early in the morning (read: at 11:00 ;-)), and as usually I turn on the PC while my eyes are still partially closed. :) Checking my email is not the first thing I usually do, but I made an exception this day. ... Ding-dong ... Whoops! New messages. Who could it be? This day was really not usual, because I always read message headers up-to-down, but this day I read them down-to-up. :) Some messages from dudes I usually talk to, and then... From: Andreas Gunnarsson. I thought for a moment: ?Hey! I?ve heard that name before?. Then I read the subject line: ?c64 and jc-assembler?. The following moment: ?Holy shit! It?s JC/Xakk!?.
As for the rest, check out: http://www.zzlevo.net/64/
Hope ya all liked the story. Quite dramatic, isn?t it? :)

AAY64 ported to C64/C128 preview |
00:45 |
I convert the well known AAY64 documentation by Ninja / The Dreams to C64 / C128 for party coding purposes ;) You can download a preview version from http://singularcrew.hu/aay64. There are 4 versions available for C64 / C128 VIC II / VDC. And of course it should work with all drives around. I prefer the 1571+C128+VDC combination, but anybody can compile 2 1541 disksides from the provided zip file. Feedback is welcome. (soci at c64 dot rulez dot org)

You Know The Routine / Camelot |
21:41 |
New demo released by Camelot in 2004 " You know the routine". So Cruzer didn?t just return to boast about his past but also to kick sum ass! ;-). After 2 small routines released on his returns few months ago he brings an oneside demo. It?s mostly oldschool stuff using recycled tunes (which is probably the only minus of this fresh demo). It?s quite interesting to read todays "network slang" in a spacer demo ;-). Camelot ownz yu! ;-) Get it here or here!

THE Hidden BBS - Telnet Real C64 - C*Base |
22:50 |
I just relaunched The Hidden - the second (besides Antidote) Telnet connected REAL C*Base BBS. The System runs on a C128 running TaoModded C*Base 3.3, 16MB Ramlink, 850MB HD, JiffyDOS (still didn't change the specs except it has no phone dialup anymore and is now running Tao Mod). For the real C64 BBS feeling drop me a private message on " noname.c64.org/csdb/scener/?id=673" or ICQ 20327223 and I will mail the IP and the needed PC terminal as I won't post the IP in public for security reasons. If You want me to I can fix an account which has been verified already to bypass the New User Application, just include Your loginname, password, phone :-), computertype, birthday and real name in the private msg. The old userlog has been scratched. All users have to apply as new user. Will check my CSDb msges every 6 hours, atleast I try to do so when I am not logged into CSDb already. See Ya on The-Hidden!

CS-Doom64 challenge |
10:56 |
Allan Bairstow of Commodore Scene is setting a challenge to all of the mostly European programmers out there, that is to produce Doom for the C64 into a full game. For those who are interested, you will be paid, although it would have to be a labour of love, and you will also need to own at least a SuperCPU. Here are some of the latest details and offers; "My goal for 2004 is to have a Doom game running on the C64 and I intend to kick start some of those demo coders to do somthing truly unique with their vast amount of programming talent. To do this I am going to offer hard cash, lots of it!
What do you have to do ?Basically, a PayPal account has already been set up, and this will form your eventual payment. You will need to supply me with a full working copy of level one (must be as close to the original as possible) in order to start the ball rolling. Once we know you are serious, work can then begin, and agreements made.
Whats the catch ?Unfortunately, we do not have the original Doom for the PC, however, I do have a version for the Atari Jaguar. You will have to utilise some specific hardware and meet some basic game criteria, and you must aim to be a faithful to the original as possible. The Jaguar version, for instance, contains 24 levels. Aim for at least 16 levels.
What hardware will be required as a minimum ?* Mouse and keyboard control (joystick can be an option)
* SuperCPU
* SuperRAM / REU option
* Compatibility with all popular drives where appropiate (ie, 1541 disks may not have sufficient storage space.)
* Large storage device (RAMLink, CMD HD or IDE64, etc)"
There is already ?200 in the PayPal account, with a pledge of another ?200 already. Contact Commodore Scene for further details, at www.commodorescene.org.uk.

New Retro magazine to hit the shelves in the UK! |
21:31 |
This is great news, especially for the English speaking world. Retro Gamer is a new quarterly professional magazine supporting all "retro" and "obsolete" formats such as the Vic 20 and Commodore 64.
Obviously, it is a games-based publication, so hardware projects such as 64HDD will have to be mentioned in passing rather than having in-depth features such as those carried in Commodore Scene. The magazine costs ?5.99p for the first issue, which is probably a set price. I have the first issue (which will be available from 15th January), which is surprisingly well written. They haven?t fallen into the trap of writing articles or reviews that have frankly been covered to death, i.e., no review of Elite or "definitive" price guide. My only complaint is the presentation, which is more down to personal taste than anything else. I think the price has been set high because there is probably going to be a lack of advertising revenues, so Live Publishing are probably saying to the UK and English speaking world "So you want a regular Retro publication.... Put your money where your mouth is....? A Retro Gamer forum is now online, so without further delay head over to www.livepublishing.co.uk to find out further details.

warning : the game will go into an endless loop if you position the ball with your joystick _inside_ the wall. take special care at the edges!!! the wall table is made like the ball is square, not round (easy to fix, but work for nothing ;) You will see what I mean when (after the ball has settled on one of the walls, you move it along the wall). In the real game all this data will ofcourse be fixed, don?t worry!!
(maybe later this week I?ll fix it, so it will not be possible to drop the ball inside walls, maybe I?ll even fix the wall-data for the testing. for now : this will have to do)
Also : enjoy the new ball, now with 2 colors ;)

Commodore 64 site in Swedish |
15:34 |
I have created a site about the Commodore 64 in Swedish called "Commodore 64 - datorernas folkvagn". This is not really any news since it has existed since 2001 but since I haven?t written about it here before and since not every Swedish C64 enthusiast may know about it, I write about it here.
The site contains general info about the C64, about its 8-bit successors (C128 and C65), about emulators, about the SID chip and about alignment of Datassette units. Some C64 programs also exist. Furthermore, there is a discussion forum in Swedish and a market place. There is also a page about different transfer methods, cables and programs that I have put much energy into.
The site also contains two pages in English. They are about assembly programming on the Commodore 128 and about the transfer program CJ Transfer 128.
The URL to the site is: w1.865.comhem.se/~u86517142/

Game Over(view) Issue #1 |
18:20 |
Just another shitty diskmag with a crap outfit and lame reviews of mostly terrible games by incompetent reviewers.
|
|
First version of "CJ Transfer 128" |
00:00 |
I hereby proudly present the first version of CJ Transfer 128. CJ Transfer 128 is a Commodore 128 program that transfers the contents of a floppy disk to a .d64, .d71 or .d81 archive file on another computer that is connected to the C128 via a User Port RS-232 adapter and a null-modem cable. Transfer in the opposite direction is also supported. Only transfer of complete floppy disks and archive files is supported. Transfer of individual files within an archive or on a floppy disk is not supported.
The main advantage with CJ Transfer 128 is that the computer connected to the C128 can be of any type (for example PC, Macintosh or Amiga) and with any operating system as long as it has a serial port and a terminal program supporting the Xmodem transfer protocol. For example, HyperTerminal in Windows can be used. Many other transfer programs that exist require a PC with the MS-DOS operating system to work correctly.
The main disadvantage with CJ Transfer 128 is currently that the transfer is slow. To transfer the contents of a floppy disk into a .d64 file or vice versa takes around 20 minutes with a 1571 drive (a few minutes more with a 1541 drive). This is something that is planned to be improved (along with other things) in future versions of CJ Transfer 128. However, since the current transfer speed is sufficient for my own needs, it may take a long time until I do any updates.
The address to the page I have put up for the program is: w1.865.comhem.se/~u86517142/cjtransfer.htm
