CyberTracker Packer BETA#1 is out |
02:59 |
A beta-version of the Packer for CyberTracker has been released. This packer is running under WIN/DOS environment. It can convert CyberTracker music, into normal C64 music that can be used outside the tracker, and it can convert CyberTracker music into SID-files.
This is only a beta, which in this case means that it?s not optimized (takes much rastertime/memory).

Just to say that Micro Mart have added a Retro Computer Forum at www.micromart.co.uk/content/newforum/threads.asp?ForumID=24 for all "old format" news, views and chat. The idea behind this is simple, either use it or loose it! (I can?t be the only person to be starting new threads each time!!!)

Arndt Dettke?s IFLI archive launched |
16:30 |
Diehard Commodore graphics enthusiast Arndt Dettke has kindly provided a gallery of wondrous IFLI pictures for our Commodore 64?s and for our viewing enjoyment. There are currently 30 pictures available for downloading and viewers for PAL and NTSC computers are included. The gallery is at: http://home.t-online.de/home/god.adettke/iflis. Enjoy! IFLI pictures aren?t wondrous. You can find IFLI files everywhere around the web, althoug most of them in executable format. First IFLI pic displayed on the web was probably on my first page in 1995-1996 after Demobit?95. We had problems to get screenshots to voting soft so I decided to make my own IFLI to BMP convertor for future, and it worked. Oh I was so proud of myself at that time ;-).(cmd)

Big sorry to XIII/WOW |
09:34 |
Forever III had some minor flaws in the organization, but none was as stupid as this one. I, Wotnau/DMagic, forgot to put the intro of XIII/WOW on the party intro compo disk and so it didn?t compete. It?s my fault and none of the other organizers?. Sorry, XIII, I?m a forgetful asshole. If you have the mood, please inform CreaMD at creamd@c64.sk (or me at wotnau@c64.sk but I don?t check mails so often now), whether you want to release the intro anyway or keep it for some other competition. Once again, I?m very sorry, I believe your intro would raise the quality level of the competition.

Starcommander?s tweakpackage updated |
16:22 |
The tweakpackage for Joe Forster?s stunning STARCOMMANDER has been updated, so that even WinXP users can benefit by transfering their disks between 1541 and PC. Here?s what he posted at <8e5ecfb7.0203070503.649acdeb@posting.google.com>:
Hi everyone,
I have released 0.10 beta of XCTest, the test program for X1541-
series cables that we used to debug the weird problems with the
XA1541 active cable prototypes. So, if you?re having transmission
problems or complete failure with your X1541-series cable then grab
XCTest from the SC useful external programs page at
http://sta.c64.org/scextprg.html. And, khm, RTFM!!! ;-)
Also, I?ve just updated the tweak package that helps the Commander
with accessing Commodore drives under Windows NT, Windows 2000 and,
now, Windows XP, too. Get it from sta.c64.org/sc.html, the
Commander homepage. Again, RTFM!!! ;-) Happy transferring,
Joe Forster/STA - sta@c64.org

Sad?n?good news about Commodore Wire |
12:55 |
Since it's launch in 1998, Commodore Wire became the most respected Commodore 64 news site in the world. Brendan Reid, the creator and maintainer of Commodore Wire had published following NOTE TO VISITORS: It is unlikely that Commodore Wire will continue to be updated in its current form. With real life pressures, I no longer have the spare time to maintain the site and am in negotiations to pass this site on elsewhere. In the meantime, I *AM* still holding on to any news items I receive, and they *WILL* be forwarded to the Wire?s new owner when the changes are ready to take place. Enquiries are welcomed to bjreid@ihug.co.nz You have my eternal respect Brendan and thanx you for all those years of Commodore 64 support.

Virtual Assembler 16 finally released!! |

Virtual Assembler 16 is a Turbo Assembler alike tool for the SuperCPU. It features 40/53/64 column display, very big memory for source codes and labels and supports all opcodes of the SCPU?s 65816 processor.
Virtual Assembler 16 has been in use as an internal Protovision tool for some time. It is a great tool! We now decided to make it available to everyone. So Protovision proudly presents: Virtual Assembler 16 pre-release V2.84! The program is complete, but there are some minor bugs which will be fixed later. There are only incomplete instructions, which are in German language only. Nevertheless, we don?t want to delay the release of this great tool any further, so here it is!

All kind of feedback is greatly appreciated! Mail to: jtr@protovision-online.de with any questions!

For the first time ever, the HVSC is surveying its users.
HVSC is now 30 updates old, ( get the update here , or here ed.) and at this time we feel it important to survey the users of the collection and SID fans in general about how they use the collection day to day, as well as look to the future and see how any changes we may make to HVSC may affect you.
The topics covered include:
- what C64 and SID emulators are used by SID fans
- how the users browse HVSC and what would work for them
- awareness of HVSC?s added value services
- the Sidplay2 emulator and evaluation for those who?ve used it
- the proposed SID file format change known as PSIDv2NG
Your feedback is very important to the whole HVSC Team, and should help to plan out the future for the collection in the long term as well as getting an idea of the current user base and how they use the collection as of now.
Also note that one randomly drawn participant will win a prize of two CDs of their choice, so please do fill out the survey as you may yet win something for just a few minutes of your time.
The survey can be located here.
Many thanks, The HVSC Team
