 Xzentrix 2002 - invitation 20:13
Xzentrix 2002XzentriX 2002 (October 04. -06. 2002) www.xzentrix.de

XZENTRIX is a Computerparty for people who believe in a life beyond office-software. This is not a normal demoparty where a few users try to top the others by pure processor-power. It is a party for people who love their computer more than their wife (and kids, and dogs :-) ). Following you?ll find a list of the main systems we expect at the XzentriX this year. Ofcourse you can take other systems with you, too.

But please, leave your PC at home... Read more here...

 Slash Design News Flash 15:39
slashdesign.tk has a new outfit and a lot of new downloads, e.g. a lot of old cracks.
Some new and previously unreleased tracks (.sid) from No-XS are uploaded! Slash Design has also released a PC demo (?) that was released last week for the LINGO demo compo. The demo was ment as a tribute to the good old C64 and is called "Breadbox Memories". Low Def joined Slash on the PC.

Current memberstatus C64: Axe, Poeba, Vai, Wvl, Celtic, No-xs, Axodry
Current memberstatus PC: Axe, Poeba, Lowdef, No-XS
ConGo Shell Extensions Beta available 00:15
What is it: It adds many useful "Commodore" functions to Windows Explorer
  • Explorer shows previews of all (50 plus) C64 picture formats supported by ConGo, from Hires to IFLI. You select the size (small icon, large icon, mini-preview, large preview)
  • The icons of your C64 images show the actual content of the files
  • With a simple right mouseclick you can convert a C64 picture to Windows-bitmap, Jpeg or Gif. This works for a selection of files too!
  • Adds a "property" page for all C64 picture where you see the full picture, it’s mode and format
  • Adds an "infotip": If you hold the mouse over a C64 picture, it’s format and mode is shown

The features are shown in a (large) example picture over here: www.editorix.org/congo/congoshellex.jpg BTW, don’t worry, what you see in German in this picture will be in English on your machine (depending on the Windows language).
You can download ConGo Shell Extensions (or shorter ConGoSE) here: www.editorix.org/congo/cesetup.zip (ZIP-file) or here: www.editorix.org/congo/cesetup.exe (EXE, only 8 KB more than the?ZIP).

 PHAT2 around the corner 14:46
beep! as late as this you?re finally getting some info on PHAT2 @ c64.sk as well. since there is so fkn much to do to make party great for all of you, we still didnt really manage to finish homepage.. coming soon (hopefully!) here phat2.808.lv and here phat2.scene.lv

for these who have no clue what i?m talking about at all - P.2 is a copy/demo/muzik party taking place in Riga, Latvia (exact place - 3-floor building in huge industrial territory of radioelectronics factory) starting with 20th september and going on for 3 days and 3 nights. P.2 is not "8 bit only" party anymore however its not much PC oriented too - it?s here to support ALL platforms, doesnt matter how exotic they are (besides c64/c128 we?ll have machines like zx spectrum, amiga, mac, trs80, atari65/130xe, nes, snes, dreamcast, psx, atari2600, apple ][ and more).

compos? gfx, music, demo, 1kb intro, ascii/petscii, logo, (crack)intro, photo, wildemo and more.. all in several categories. you can also take part in compos by sending your entries to organizers.

the music part is also really special there with over 30 latvian bands and DJs performing and also special-star-guests (mostly scene related and some using c64s for their live-sets!), just watch this:

- lackluster aka distance/tpolm (defocus/merck - finland)
- tero aka deetsay/dcs (rikos - finland)
- goto80/hack?n?trade/up rough (bleepstreet/penpal records - sweden)
- role model/hack?n?trade (bleepstreet - germany/sweden)
- lektrogirl (rephlex/micromusic - uk)
- i-f (murdercapital/viewlexx - holland)
- manou (wmf/monika records/micromusic - germany)
- focus (narva records - estonia)

not to mention ~10 latvian VJs + those:

- zden/satori (message/no such - slovakia)
- copenhagen brains (musicsystem - denmark)

all this is divided in 5 main areas:

- demohall with seats and bigscreen + audiosystem
- scenetown: area with rooms
- group-HQs where you can sleep, booze, code etc, reserve room for your group now!
- musichall#1
- musichall#2
- outside for trips and additional action - industrial area and park within it

entrance is free, donations accepted though.

more info to follow soon indeed.

PHAT stands for PHreedom and ATmosphere.
 Excentric/De-Koder 12:32
Two sided collection of Reflex-Tracker compositions composed by Data and Bizet was released yesterday at c64power. The date of release is a little bit strange, I’ll keep you updated when I find out more. Graphics by Colitt and code by Data. All in all quite decent intro and a bunch of sampled tunes. As Colitt says it’s not a production of the month but definitely a sign of life from De-Koder ;-). DOWNLOAD the collection. Send your feedback to Colitt/De-Koder.

Sit in my underwear, drinking Pepsi 19:50
Stop whatever you?re doing right now! That?s right - just close those pr0n windows!

During the next couple of days, instead focus your energies towards producing exclusive music for the first in a series of fabulous music collections!

Come see what we?re all about!

The first one, SIT IN MY UNDERWEAR, DRINKING PEPSI limits your creativity to the music. This time, the days you normally waste trying to come up with a great title for your song can instead be used for other things. Because you must not, and I repeat MUST NOT name your tune anything other than SIT IN MY UNDERWEAR, DRINKING PEPSI.
No real other rules are there, except:
-Tune must be new
-Tune must be atleast 1 minute
-Tune must be finished and send in Thursday the 22th of August 2002
-Tune must be send in to linsharon@hotmail.com

The organizers of this collection, have the right to disqualify or rename a tune to the correct name.

HVSC Update #32 is released 23:40
Feel free to snag a very important new update at www.hvsc.c64.org. This update applies the necessary conversion work for HVSC to take on PSIDv2NG, the extended PSIDv2 SID file format. The main upshot of this is that the collection will become more C64-friendly, and will continue to do so with the addition in future of rips which will play on a real C64 (such as proper sample rips and such like). Be sure to snag it and keep your collection up to date. As it?s a one-off conversion, there isn?t any new SIDs. But there?ll be a lot more next time, I promise :) Typo in link fixed - T.M.R =-)

 MW4:Agents of Metal prev.V2 binary & source 19:57
Hi!

Here?s at last the updated preview, containing 50Hz framerate and CovertScript scripting language, among other improvements. Not much new game content though :(

MW4 Preview V2 binary
MW4 Preview V2 sourcecode

Right now I?m extremely satisfied with the CovertScript language. It supports for example paging -> CS programs bigger than the C64?s memory are no problem, and multithreading -> no clumsy statemachine design required for simultaneous tasks happening at once, for example the titlescreen & game menu.

I've tried to avoid hardcoding things into the game engine as much as possible, so it should be fairly "mod-able". Full documentation of the engine coming sometime later!

 VISION-Party ahead! 21:56
The VISION-Party organised by Protovision, taking place on 23rd till 25th August in Halstenbek (near Hamburg), Germany is getting very close.

If you can?t be present at the party personally, it?s still possible to hand in competition entries via email or snail-mail. There is a mixed compo for demos, graphics, music and mini-games - this should be interesting for people who couldn?t finish competition entries for one of the parties at the beginning of August (LCP, Role-Party and Assembly).

The deadline for contributions sent by email is Friday 23rd August at 24:00h CET and contributions sent by snail-mail must arrive by Saturday, 24th August.

There are some great prizes for the competition and first place will win a C128D with color monitor!

For further information visit the VISION-Homepage.

 Scene World - 4th issue 20:08
I would like to personaly apologise to Joerg "Nafcom/P.o.L./The Stock" Droege for releasing this magazine before the official internet release date.(CreaMD)

Meanwhile there is a change in the distribution of the magazine. "Due the recently confusions and misunderstandings, we decided that there won't be any releasedate differences between internet/email and snail mail. So, doesn't matter when or how you got a new issue of our diskmag: You may spread it immediately!!!" (Nafcom) (updated on 15th of August 2002)

I?ve got an E-mail today from Jazzcat saying "Please find attached SceneWorld #4, received in the snail mail by me today. Spread there first, something that should be done more :)". Yeah you?re right David, mail spread should be revived. For those who don?t mail-swap here is the mag: DOWNLOAD from c64.sk or Goin' 4 Gold. (btw. please apologise my year lasting delay, you know who you are ;-)). Enjoy the magazine.

Thank you all for your patience during the compo. The compogods just we?re not with us. I?ll never forget that watertap that filled the audiomixer with water and the bigscreen projector that broke down 1 minute before the compo. Chaos as usual! Better luck next year, I guess. See you there 2003!

Most party-stuff can also be found on The Banana Republic and Goin? 4 Gold.

On the "Mad Mans Dream"-image, the file "SHAPE/TRUE WORDS" was corrupted first. Thanks to Twoflower we got a working version which is available on the The Banana Republic, the LCP Homepage and on Goin' 4 Gold. If you are ever unsure which version you are currently holding: at the corrupted version, the file "SHAPE/TRUE WORDS" is 20 Blocks long while in the working version it's 9. /MacGyver (ed.)

Retro attraction at the Birmingham N.E.C, UK. 10:37
Greetings all, I have been given the go-ahead to have a feature area at this years Micro Mart computer fair at the Birmingham N.E.C, UK. There is 10mx10m of floor space available to show off all old micros including some from the Commodore range, which are (so far); - Commodore C64 and 64C - Commodore 128 and 128d - Commodore C64sx - Commodore C64gs (Casing only - faulty rom) - Commodore Vic 20 - CBM 4032 and other pets - Rarer Commodore items such as Watches and calculators. - There is also going to be a good Amiga section there! Already, Nicolas Coplin is going to try and make it all the way from Australia, and the event has generated an enthusiastic response by other much stronger retro communities in the UK such as the Sinclair QL scene etc... so I am not worried that very few UK C64 users will be turning up, as always apathy rules in the UK scene. This is not an official press release about the event, so for the full details keep up to date with Micro Mart magazine or try their web site at www.micromart.co.uk/default.asp?category=fair.
