We launch Joketro Compo 2 |
18:23 |
The New Dimension and Hokuto Force has launched the second JokeTro compo this year.
This is a fun competition where you have an opportunity to create your own fake demo or cracker groups and produce your own intros, using either programming (For those who can code) or using an intro creator. Examples of intros and also some intro makers have been added on to the Joketro web site.
Last year, the prize was a C64 emulator, which runs on a proper C64. This year?s mystery star prize will be even better and more useful and less of a joke :).
If you are interested and you have some good ideas, which you like to implement then visit The Official C64 JOKETRO COMPO Website.

It is called ? State of the Art ?. It will be held on December 13-14-15 2002 in Tourcoing (near Lille, France) in a unique place : Le Fresnoy ( www.le-fresnoy.tm.fr), a national Studio of Contemporary Arts and a wonderful building which used to be a Wrestling arena ! Protovision interviewed by New York Times |
15:16 |
Lately, ThunderBlade / Protovision got contacted by The New York Times,
as Protovision?s activities around the Commodore 64 cought their attention.
They asked questions about all their projects such as WiNGS, Metal Dust, the Vision Party and how it comes Protovision is still motivated to develop for the C64. But this extensive interview was not all!
A few days later, ThunderBlade was contacted by a photographer. He had been assigned by The New York Times to take some photos of one of Protovision?s founders. Due to time pressure this had to be done fast and so the NYT photographer visited ThunderBlade at his work place ( QNX Software Systems) for a big photo session.
Unfortunately, the author of the article didn?t know yet when it will be published. Updated by MacGyver on 25th September 2004, 13:10 CET

What?s coming up in HVSC Update #33 |
19:13 |
Hello folks,
with the recent HVSC Update #32 involving the conversion of HVSC
to the PSIDv2NG file format, this was the first stage of eventually
making HVSC more C64-compliant than ever before.
The forthcoming HVSC Update #33, due to be released around
mid-to-late October, will further progress the C64 compliance by
for the first time allowing real C64 sample tunes to be played
without the need to hack into them and do PlaySID sample
conversion.
You will have to use a Sidplay2-based SID emulator (such as
Sidplay2/Windows) to play them correctly, however, as playing any of
these SIDs on PlaySID or any Sidplay1-based emulator will most likely
cause them to crash. Do not fear though, there will be the _PSID
file equivalents for those users, which are already in HVSC, and we do
not plan to phase those out for the foreseeable future. Please see
sections 7 through 10 of the HVSC FAQ for further information.
The downside though is that admittedly some of the real C64 rips will
mean that, for example, the tools people sometimes use to check rips,
generate playtimes etc may not work correctly anymore, and therefore
this is an advance warning to those tool writers to ensure that they
have adequate time to work together to update those tools.
We make no apologies however for pushing to make HVSC more
C64-compliant. We are sure you agree that being able to play _all_
the SIDs on the host machine should be the ultimate aim if possible -
it is a tribute indeed to almost all of us having our roots firmly
embedded in the C64.
One final word to the rippers out there: if at all possible,
please prioritise your ripping work so that you help us add
more real C64 rips into HVSC, as well as fix those tunes in
the Sidplay2 Bugged SIDs list and those in the HVSC
BUGlist.txt file. This would be most appreciated not just
by us, but by many SID fans too. A current list of those
real C64 versions already ripped can be found here:
www.hvsc.c64.org/News/realc64.html
Also, you may be interested to know that a new version
of Sidplay2/Windows was released yesterday, which allows
for full support of PSIDv2NG. Please consult the following
page for more information:
www.d.kth.se/~d93-alo/c64/spw/
Kind regards,
The HVSC Team.

MiniGame Compo - only three days left |
12:47 |
The deadline for the minigame compo is 12.00 GMT, aka 14.00 in central Europe, 13.00 in the UK and Ireland, 15.00 in eastern Europe, 7 am eastern US, 4 am western US. I think :) In other words, only the weekend left, so it?s time to get busy.
To those who have sent in games but haven?t seen them on the webpage yet, chill, they?ll all be up soon.
Voting will begin as soon as I?ve managed to make a giant zip out of all the entries and figured out some emulator instructions. I?m leaving for a 10 day vacation in Chicago on Thursday, so I?ll be sure to get the voting page online before then. I?ll also try to get a discussion board going where you can discuss the entries, emulators, and other related things.
Oh, voting will be done through a web form. The page has been tested with Mozilla, links, Netscape 4, and IE 5, so everyone should be able to vote. The voting rules will be something along these lines:
- One person, one vote. One person, one E-mail address.
- The closing date for voting is 14th of October, 12.00 GMT.
- Each game is given a score between 1 (crap) and 10 (excellent). If you tried to play a game but couldn?t get it to work properly there?s an option for that too - do not give it a crap score.
- Feel free to leave comments about the compo or individual games, but be civilized.
- Each game will need a minimum number of votes to be counted, probably 10. This is just so that a game with a single vote of 10 won?t win the compo, as that would be downright silly.
- Play and vote for as many games as possible. Especially some of the more odd platforms could probably use your help to meet the minimum number of votes requirement. Besides, playing games is fun.

Another release at Willow Party 2002 was the diskmag Rock'n Role #26 by ROLE.
First presented at the party was the Commodore C-64 MP3 Datasette, created by Pentagon. It's a system to connect an MP3-player to the C64 via the Datasette-Port in order to play MP3-CDs with tape-images on. The main-idea behind this project is to archive tape-images in a way you can still use them on a real C64. Read more about it here later. (Updated by MacGyver, 9. September, 6:24 CET)

Those who have been using 64HDD for some time now will be pleased with the new features offered by the Professional package. See www.64hdd.com/professional/

The Professional package includes:
- a serial disk speeder to improve load times by up to x8;
- a GUI interface to ease management of devices and partitions;
- access more device numbers
- better compatibility with utilities design for CMD drives
- device number "swap" functionality
- enhanced GEOS64 support including drivers for the larger 800kb D81 disk image format
- new native mode support for T18 and T&S error emulation allowing more 1541 programs to be transfered to the native MSDOS/LFN system where they can take advantage of the unrestricted file space
So, whether you are a Gamer, Programmer or Application user there is something for every Commodore user...
So check out the details at www.64hdd.com
