Heavy Metal Deluxe V1.5 |
21:36 |
There?s been a problem with the hi-score saver routine in Heavy Metal Deluxe. I have erased the hi-score save routine and disabled the option to save the hi-scores. Therefore no more crashing. Sorry, but I had to do this, as I had lots of difficulties fixing the bug. I?ve uploaded the updated version of the game to replace the bugged version of the game. You can go and download the game now :)

Covert BitOps Loadersystem V2.0 |
01:51 |
This is a quite versatile loader/depackersystem for C64 programs. Free for use in all kinds of C64 productions. Some features include:
- Fastloader (1-bit or 2-bit) on 1541 compatible drives
- 2-bit transfer is NMI-proof, and both PAL & NTSC compatible
- Optional loading with Kernal routines
- Buffering of files into REU
- Use of 2-letter or long filenames
- Loading of unpacked, exomized or pucrunched files
- Possibility to read a file byte by byte (custom data handling)
- Hiscore file load/save
- Configurable; only the features you need are compiled in
The loader source code is long (60KB, DASM format) so it?s likely that it has to be assembled with a crossassembler. If you don?t use DASM, you have to convert the source code yourself. Should be easy for the most part. There are many (simple) example programs included in the package.

Heavy Metal Deluxe finally released |
16:54 |
At long last, Heavy Metal Deluxe is finally ready for download. Unfortunately the TND web site is currently not updated at the moment, but I will do all the best I can to update the web site. Also the version, which I released for Mainframe party 2002, had a little bug in the high score entry, but now that problem has been fixed. Also the game consists of a nice intro presentation, featuring a cool logo drawn by JSL/Civitas/Protovision. This game can be downloaded here, or then again, why not take a look at some screenshots or read about this new game here.

Update on Commodore Wire status |
08:40 |
Since a few days a new message appeared at Commodore Wire. Here it comes: NOTE TO VISITORS: Don?t give up just yet - a new outfit is being worked on to hopefully make updates a lot easier and quicker to add than the method that?s covered Commodore Wire these last few years (manually with Notepad!). If, and I do mean IF, all goes according to plan, it?s hoped that the new look Commodore Wire will be ready sometime in the next few weeks.
I also want to clarify something: it?s likely that cW will have new owners, but that doesn?t necessarily mean I won?t still have a say. If there?s a chance I can devote more time to the site in the future, than I certainly will. I?ve still been collecting news over the past few months, and between my colleagues and I, we still hope to clear this mammoth backlog once the new outfit is set to go. Any questions? Try me at bjreid@ihug.co.nz.

New C64 game in the works |
19:41 |
A brand new game is in the works. Now that 'Heavy Metal Deluxe' is finished (won't be downloadable yet - and don't ask for the full game, as it will be released at Mainframe Party first) and just a game intro presentation needs to be done. Richard of TND has just started to work on a brand new Commodore 64 game called "Bomb Chase".
About the new game project
The aim of the game is to run around the playing area, collecting time bombs (10 seconds for each bomb). It may sound a bit like the 'Defuzion' game series, but how wrong you are. Basically you are a blob that has to stop bombs from blowing up by taking a safe path. However, monsters will be running across the screen to capture you (These cheeky creatures will be randomly positioned, accordingly to data table). You have to avoid colliding into the walls, which scroll across the screen (Something like with Alternative Software's silly game 'Slug') and not get caught by the enemies.
You'll have to be quick collecting bombs, else if the time runs out on the bomb, it will blow up and you will lose a life. If a monster touches you, the monster will eat you and you also lose a life. I have loads of levels in store for the game, and to help me to produce the game screens, I will be using Jon Wells' Multi-Screen Construction Kit, which will be a very good helpful.
When I work on the main game, I will release a playable preview for C64 gamers and TND fanatics to download and then try out. I don't know when there'll be a playable preview, but I?m sure it could be in about 2 or 3 weeks time or maybe a bit longer :)

The Final Ethernet - C64 Ethernet Cartridge |
12:43 |
Adam Dunkels (Trident/Active) & Peter Eliasson (Trasher/Active) have developed an Ethernet cartridge designed around Systor Vest AS? CS8900a-based Embedded Ethernet board. The solution is using uIP - a small implementation of the TCP/IP protocol stack. As authors say: The possibility of connecting the Commodore 64 to an Ethernet local area network has been a collective dream in the Commodore community for decades. A C64 Ethernet adapter would make it possible to connect the C64 directly to the Internet, making it possible to download software, transfer data to and from the C64, play network games over the Internet; the possibilities are endless. Browse to Adam's site and check the first working applications, pictures of the hardware and other goodies. Thanx to Taper for info.

Normally I?m not into nostalgiac activities, but Sir?s C64 Art Gallery is simply fantastic (and actually I feel rather refreshed than down in the dumps after seeing it ;-). Stephen Robertson aka SIR, author of many intro-pictures in many cool games has launched a site called Sir?s C64 Art Gallery dedicated to his artwork made on C64 during his active years 1985-1988. There is also a decent download section and lots of interesting text to read. Go there, watch, and learn! ;-)

C64.sk links to C64 Scene Database Forums |
03:36 |
C64 Scene Database finally got the shape which is closer and closer to the perfection, it?s maintainers Perff and Kilroy of Noname are still adding new features and goodies, but we can finally say that it went through it?s betatesting phase. I had plans for c64.sk forums but after seeing how close C64 Scene Database Forums are to my idea(l)s about good working scene forums, I?ve decided to link to them. In my opinion CSDb forums are the best place for sceners to discuss things and I hope that your interest will prove that I wasn?t wrong. If you don?t know about C64 scene database yet (which I doubt ;-) go there, set up your own account and go for it. Besides, I?ve also decided to link Lemon64 forums, if you are more into Retro-gaming and overall c64 nostalgia, you will find a lot of friends there.
